MUIRFIELD MOMENT: A POP OF POOLSIDE COLOR
These bold beauties caught my eye on a recent ride past the Glick Road pool. Turns out they’re canna lilies—heat-loving, low-maintenance, and absolutely stunning. Just don’t get them mixed up with calla lilies, which are quite different. I may never “calla” myself a master gardener… but maybe even I “canna” grow these lilies!
Every time I ride past the Glick Road pool on the paved path, I admire the bold red blooms in the garden near the entrance. With full sun and steady traffic, it’s a tough little patch, but those flowers don’t seem to mind.
Curious (and a little envious), I snapped a photo and brought it to Baker’s Village Garden Center. The staff member took one look and said, “Canna lilies!” Apparently, they’re not only beautiful and showy - they’re also heat-tolerant, low-maintenance, and love the sun.
Honestly, they might be the perfect plant for me. I’m always on the lookout for something that can bloom big without needing constant attention.
Between work, travel, and time with my family, I don’t have nearly the hours—or gardening know-how—I’d need to maintain a show-stopping landscape. But I do love having beautiful flowers in my yard—and I know the impact great curb appeal can have, whether you're planning to sell or simply want your home to feel more welcoming.
Of course, the real credit for those gorgeous poolside gardens goes to the incredible Muirfield Village HOA staff. They keep every corner of our community looking fabulous, season after season—and they make it look effortless.
Inspired by something blooming in Muirfield? I’d love to hear about it. Or better yet—snap a photo and let’s compare notes!
